Dr John Stevens
Over the past 20 years, he has incrementally established a thriving medico-legal and expert witness practice specialising in Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury, Employment and Equality Law, Immigration and Asylum, together with Regulatory Cases involving the General Medical Council, the General Dental Council, and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Dr Stevens has more than 35 years’ experience of working as a psychiatrist and medical psychotherapist for the NHS and in private practice. Having trained at University College Hospital and King’s College Hospital, he worked for many years at Springfield Hospital and St George’s Hospital in South London.
In addition he worked as Consultant Psychiatrist at the NHS Gender Identity Clinic, formerly based at Charing Cross Hospital in West London.
His training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy was with the British Association of Psychotherapists.
Dr Stevens works as a Health Examiner and Medical Supervisor for the General Medical Council. As such, he examines and writes reports on troubled doctors with mental health and addictive conditions. He is a former Second Opinion Approved Doctor for the Care Quality Commission and a Medical Adviser to the Health Committee of the General Dental Council. When required, he appears before the Medical Practitioners Tribunals Service to give expert evidence in person.
Dr Stevens also sits as a Medical Member on three HMCTS Tribunals in England:
